Short answer: the Philippines is the better choice for large teams, round-the-clock cover and the lowest hourly rates. Morocco suits UK companies that want daytime cover without night shifts, and US companies that want a small, closely managed team working an evening shift instead of overnight. We are a Moroccan provider, so weigh our view accordingly. The facts below can be checked independently.
Time zones
This is the biggest practical difference. The Philippines is on UTC+8 all year. Morocco is on UTC+1, and moves to UTC+0 during Ramadan.
| Compared with | Philippines | Morocco |
|---|---|---|
| London | 7 to 8 hours ahead | 0 to 1 hour ahead |
| New York | 12 to 13 hours ahead | 5 to 6 hours ahead |
| A 9-to-6 London day | Evening and night shift | Normal day shift |
| A 9-to-6 New York day | Full night shift | Afternoon to around midnight |
Night work is normal in the Philippine industry and well organised, but it is still night work. For UK companies in particular, a Moroccan team works the same hours as your office, so live handovers, training sessions and quick questions happen in real time.
Talent and English
English is an official language in the Philippines and is widely used in schools, universities and business. The country's outsourcing industry employs well over a million people, so there is a deep pool of experienced agents, team leads and managers.
In Morocco, Arabic and Amazigh are the official languages and French is common in business. English is growing quickly among graduates under 30, but fluency varies a lot from person to person. That is why a Moroccan provider should test every agent and show you the scores. At Strait CX, every agent passes a C1 test before a client meets them.
Scale
If you need 200 agents next quarter, the Philippines can deliver that with less risk. If you need 2 to 25 agents who sit close to your own working day, a smaller Moroccan team can work very well, and you are a bigger account to your provider.
Cost
Philippine rates are usually lower. Indicative 2026 ranges for dedicated English-speaking agents are about $9 to $15 per hour in the Philippines and $12 to $18 in Morocco. Our cost guide explains what sits inside a rate and how to compare quotes fairly. Compare the full cost, including management time and any night-shift premium, not just the hourly figure.
Data protection
Neither country has a data adequacy decision from the UK or the EU, so both need a transfer safeguard: the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. The Philippines has the Data Privacy Act of 2012, enforced by the National Privacy Commission. Morocco has Law 09-08, enforced by the CNDP.
Travel
London to Manila is a long-haul journey of 14 hours or more. London to Tangier, an hour's drive from Tétouan, is about three hours. If you plan to visit your team, train them in person or run quarterly reviews on site, that difference adds up.
How to choose
- Choose the Philippines for large teams, 24/7 cover, the lowest rates, or US support where night shifts are fine.
- Choose Morocco for UK daytime cover, a small dedicated team, easy visits from Europe, or US Eastern hours without overnight shifts.
- Use both if you are large enough: a Moroccan team for UK and European hours, with a Philippine team covering the US night.
